A newly released one-page document reveals that the U.S. Justice Department has permanently blocked the IRS from auditing past tax claims filed by President Donald Trump, his family, and his business entities.
Signed by acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the sweeping order dictates that the government cannot audit any Trump tax returns filed prior to Monday, covering any issues “that were raised or could have been raised.”
This directive expands upon Monday’s settlement, where Trump agreed to drop his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over leaked tax returns. In exchange, the Justice Department established a $1.8 billion fund dedicated to compensating victims of political “weaponization.”
During his first congressional testimony since taking office, acting Attorney General Blanche faced intense questioning regarding the creation of the fund.
